It is the highest Shiva temple in the world.

Part of the Panch Kedar:

Tungnath is one of the five sacred Shiva temples known as the Panch Kedar, located in the Garhwal Himalayas.

According to Hindu mythology, these temples are associated with the Pandavas from the epic Mahabharata.

Pandava Connection:

Legend says that the Pandavas built these temples to atone for their sins after the Kurukshetra war.

Lord Shiva, displeased with the Pandavas, disguised himself as a bull. When Bhima attempted to catch him, Shiva’s body parts reappeared in five different locations, which became the Panch Kedar temples.

Tungnath is believed to be where Lord Shiva’s arms (bahu) appeared.
